Sleep is important and how you wake up is as well!
When we got our new puppy I was afraid it was going to be just like a new baby - up at all hours of the night.
Well I was happily surprised - she never makes a peep all night long. My sleep is never interrupted!
Sleep is SUPER important for mental and physical health - YET did you know how you wake up and what you are thinking is just as important?
This past week I was in my morning devotion time when I flipped through my scripture cards to come across Lamentations 3:22-23
The Lord's mercies (lovingkindness) never end. For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness.
Great verse - we are all familiar with it. Yet it yields a secret that science has unveiled.
Neurogenesis!
As you know genesis is the creation of new. I love how science keeps using this word! Remember angiogenesis in my cancer video? Watch it here.
Neurogenesis is what happens at night while you sleep. New baby nerve cells have been born while you were sleeping and they are at your disposal to be wired into good choices or bad choices.
Our latest challenge in our FB group - Biblical Nutrition Academy was to wake up every day and say: Today is Going to be an AMEN DAY! These words are wiring these new neurons to help you make good choices.
When we wake up and say - Today is going to be a bear, I am not looking forward to it. These words are wiring these new neurons to help you make bad choices.
When we are healthy and happy we make a higher number of new neurons then when we are stressed and depressed.
As I was teaching this in greater detail to our Fall Coaching Group - we get to choose our attitude. As we go to bed take 5 minutes to reflect on the 3 credits you gave yourself today. Then read a verse from Psalm or Proverbs. This sets your mind to focus on what is stated in Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
Next - when you wake up in the morning and your feet hit the floor - say out loud: Today is going to be an amen day! I heartily agree with what God brings my way!
You are in control of the action of your neurons - these neurons will then either help you succeed as you have stated or they will help you fail as you believed would happen.
What is your day going to reflect?
Please don't let the world determine your happiness - it comes from within.
Dr. Carolyn Leaf states:
As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking we can wire out toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts.
Every time science unveils God's goodness, mercy and love it is time for a Snoopy Dance - a Praise Tickle - A shout Hallelujah!
