Did you know January 19th is the official Quitters Day? Yep - that is the date by when most people have quit their health plans for the new year.
People quit because of cravings; giving in.
As I teach in the Treasures Bible study and the Inner Circle - we have so much to unlearn and to learn.
Our society has a 'giving in' mentality. Giving in is the opposite of discipline and it yields itself to cravings.
Temporarily, giving in silences the craving or desire.
Yet it has consequences.
How to handle cravings is a new learning experience. We have to unlearn giving in and learn giving over.
Today I want to introduce you to giving over.
With each decision we either exercise our giving in muscle or our giving over (resistance) muscle.
To give over means to let this craving pass and while it passes sit with the feeling and discern why you are having the craving.
What is it your body is really needing?
Are you hungry?
Are you thirsty?
Or are you feeling emotional about a task at hand, a demand on your time, a relationship issue, or other feeling?
When we learn how to give over to our emotions and let ourselves feel the emotion, we can then learn to say: That wasn't so bad!
That was not worth eating for!
In essence we are giving over to God and letting him help us through the craving.
At that moment you will have broken through the craving!
Giving over to your emotions means let the emotion give you a chance to talk to God about why you are dealing with it.
Then let God have a moment to show you how to work through without giving in to food, sex, exercise, pornography or other craving stimulant.
Cravings don't go away because of a wish. Cravings go away because we work through them. We give over to God the emotions we at first went to food, now we are giving over to God.
