How do you stop eating when you are satisfied?
Do some foods seem to call your name and then force you to clean your plate?
Does eating with others cause you to eat more or possibly eating in secret leads you to overeat.
Today I am going to help you be a sleuth and discover why you do this.
PLUS I am going to share 3 tips to stop overeating.
Not everyone wears their overindulgence unsightly. Even skinny people can overeat and experience gluttony.
Did you know there are 20 verses on gluttony and overeating!
It must be important.
Yet - all of us are created to do well with the practice of discipline.
Here are three problems why we overeat:
1. Media - all around us the media have programmed us to believe we deserve more - and that includes food. Please realize the media has no intent for you to be healthy. In fact, they monetize your sickness.
2. Scientist - are paid to not allow satiety to happen with processed foods. The foods designed in a lab are designed to not send satisfied signals to your brain to stop eating. In fact, they do the opposite. Which is why you don't feel satisfied or full till you almost roll out of your chair.
- Artificial sweeteners do not create satiety!
- High Fructose corn syrup does not enter the brain to create satiety
- Processed foods overstimulate hunger
3. Discipline - we have not taught our children and grandchildren to wait till they are hungry and stop when they are satisfied. We feed them 5-6 meals a day and wonder why they wont eat healthy foods.
My mom never encouraged snacks after school. It was always "it will spoil your dinner." Yet, my friends would always brag about their pop-tarts and cookies after school.
Here is how to be a detective and discover your satisfied 'happy place'
1. Plan your eating the day before. - We teach the value of this in the 40 Day Transformation course and also coach this value in the Inner Circle. This puts you in charge and not the food.
2. Be curious - ask yourself - am I really hungry - what would happen if I stopped half way through my meal and waited 2 minutes.
- Set the timer on your phone. Close your mouth for 2 minutes and listen to the conversation. Then when the 2 minutes is over, ask yourself - am I still hungry?
3. Experiment - Foods that are combined flavors cause a slower signal to the brain for satisfied.
- Eat one food at a time till you are satisfied with that food, then move to another food on your plate.
We went to a fish restaurant last night here in Florida. I had my coleslaw first after one bite of fish. My husband also gave me his coleslaw. These were the serving size of a small cookie scoop. After I ate mine and started his, I noticed the flavor of the coleslaw was diminished. so I stopped.
Then I ate my fish. The serving was 4 pieces. I was satisfied after 1 piece. Waiting 2 minutes confirmed this satiety.
This meal was served with fries which I had predetermined not to eat so that was not a conflict. My husband started on my fries so I poured water on them. 😂
The more we learn why we eat the more we can control the how much.
Food may comfort - temporarily but it NEVER solve problems.
The more you investigate your eating as an outsider and not a critic the more success you will have.
If you finish a meal with a serving of guilt and regret you will stay in the corner.
If you finish a meal and ask yourself questions as if you are a coach to yourself and not a berating parent - then success happens.
Many people say "Well I fell off the wagon again."
I am here to say - Burn the wagon! Never get on a wagon again!
Everyday is an opportunity to learn how you fell after certain foods and certain serving sizes. Then adjust for the next meal.
Eat for hunger and live to be satisfied!
