Hello
Today my husband, Trixie and I are driving back to Virginia after 4 weeks in Florida. The warm sand and sun have totally been worth it.
Yet, I am so ready to get back to my kitchen. This has been the most times we have eaten at restaurants in several years and my palette is ready for real food.
Although the trip included many great adventures such as biking 490 miles, kayaking 10 miles and playing pickleball - it is the food that has tired me out the most.
So, I wanted to share the best tips for eating out and what to do before you get in the car to drive to a restaurant.
Before we talk about restaurants, let me share what I pack to avoid restaurants as much as possible. This is more true for long distance.
1. We pack all supplies necessary to make smoothies for any meal. Here is my trusted blender . I have been using it for over 12 years and it always works.
We carry it to hotels, homes we visit and just about anywhere. If there is no restaurant on our map we pull over and make smoothies.
I use the GBX protein for the main filler and then depending on location add the super foods and/or fresh fruits and veggies.
2. Fresh baked bread. This rarely last beyond 3 days since we love it and make sandwiches of organic sunflower seed butter or peanut butter.
These two staples keep us satisfied for short periods of travel.
Then when we need variety we will pick up salads at the grocery store. This is fine for me, yet Steve will pick up something hot from the deli.
Now for eating out! Don't eat out till you do this first!
1. Research the restaurant PRIOR to leaving the house.
This has saved me countless calories and wasted money. Especially in Florida - fresh catch is rarely fresh catch. One restaurant which has all-you-can-eat fish on Friday advertised fresh catch. When I asked what kind of fish, they said it was Asian Catfish! No one has to tell me those are not found in Florida waters 😉.
Look online and see what is on the menu that fits your eating plan.
Call the restaurant to see if they will prepare it your preferred way to avoid GMO oils or garnishes.
2. Read the comments. It seems restaurants are dealing with a staffing shortage and this may effect your service and food cleanliness. Every restaurant can have a bad night or an uninformed waiter, yet look for a trend of comments.
3. Make the restaurant fit your 24 hour meal plan.
In the Inner Circle, 7 Steps to Amazing Biblical Health, and the 40 Day Transformation all include a version of the Hunger Satisfied Journal. One of the steps that brings the quickest health transformation is planning for 24 hours. No more and no less.
Eating out needs to be planned. It needs to be written prior to entering the restaurant.
Write out what you are going to have - before the aroma wafts in as you enter the restaurant. Then follow your plan.
This will bring not only satisfaction in knowing you are in control, but your digestive system will not complain later.
4. Eat ONLY till satisfied! This is paramount for eating out. Serving sizes have started to be less than in the past. This is a blessing. Asking for a take home box when you meal arrives and then saving half your meal for tomorrow before you even take one bite will save calories and bring a new sense of control.
What I hear most from people is:
"We ate out so I will restart tomorrow."
This is the old you. There is no restart. This is life.
When we plan well we see results quickly.
When we give in to addictions or impulses we are no different than that 2-year old in the candy aisle at checkout.
We can learn from the 2 year old. Say - let's wait till another day and you can have sweets. Or - that is not on our meal plan today and I have a delicious dinner waiting.
So the sooner we realize that every meal matters - the sooner we experience the health that will not only satisfy us today but for years to come.
Eating out is not an opt-out for health. Let eating out be more about the fellowship than the food.
Thanks for being part of the Biblical Nutritionist family. We have some great announcements coming soon in regards to the Biblical Wellness Ministry!
And this next week I will be attending the NRB conference in Nashville. National Religious Broadcasters.
I am excited to be invited to the Israel breakfast and also a Media Leadership Luncheon. I am praying for God's direction on the focus and future of this quickly expanding ministry.
I am not sure you are aware but this ministry started in 2007 with me teaching the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study in churches around Virginia and Missouri. From there it grew to the video series.
Then in 2018 I met a stranger, who is now a great friend, who encouraged me to get on YouTube. I told him - I had given up. I was done at trying to share God's recipe for excellent health.
He said - you need to get back in. So here I am today with a team of 7 and a ministry reaching around the globe.
We are continuing to improve our three websites for your experience:
TheBiblicalNutritionist.com
BiblicalNutritionAcademy.com
Biblicalwellnessminsitry.com
God has more in store for you and I am praying this conference helps our team learn the next steps.
Thanks again for being part of this ministry. You are the reason we do this every day.
