When I was first married, my husband wanted sweets after every meal. Well, those words were sweet to my ears. My mom allowed dessert only on Sunday.
So with my love of baking and a new sweet tooth, I was all 'submissive'. If this was submission, then our marriage was going to be cupcake style!
Well, even though I did not gain the Freshman 15 in college, I definitely did in the first year of marriage. Sweets were my go to, my enemy and my comfort.
Hormones went totally out of whack and with that moods were swinging so much neither one of us knew if it was a windy day or just me.
I fought the truth. I loved sweets more than anything else. Yet - sweets ain't sweet.
So jump forward many years and now I am 100% desiring my life back. And you have heard me say in YT videos we were facing the doctor with a prescription pad being filled out faster than we could count.
It was time for BOTH of us to change.
But my husband was reluctant. His idea of vegetables was canned green beans and corn on the cob buried in butter.
To get him on board, all my prodding fell flat. My encouragement was not enough.
I knew it was time for change and I controlled the food.
Step 1 to bring your family to healthy meals -
Decide to cook healthy.
So I cooked healthy meals. Sometimes if I went too far, they would ask me to bring in an old favorite. But I stayed strong. All the while, I did the second step that anyone should do when a family member does not want to care for their body properly.
I prayed.
And I kept praying and cooking. Pray, cook, add in a favorite, pray, cook, add in a favorite.
My father-in-law then passed away at 76. How interesting as a child that age seems so old. Now it seems so young. And every ailment my husband was dealing with was the same problems that caused my father-in-law's death. Can you hear 'wake up call' ringing?
Steve was on board.
God intervened. God used that sorrowful situation to bring the truth front and center.
Now step 3 - Stay close to a mentor.
I needed someone in my court to give me encouragement, advice, and ideas. That is what the Inner Circle can do for you! (BTW the Inner Circle is only open for enrollment till June 30)
Without Kim Davis being my first friend in Richmond when we moved ( that was another part of God's plan, he moved us so I would have a mentor when needed) here I would have floundered. I would have quit! I have quit many times, so this would just be another quitting moment. Who wants to eat differently than everyone else?
Step 4 - Study - Treasures of Healthy Living Bible Study.
As I compiled all my mentee learning the birth of the Treasures of Healthy Living Bible study surfaced. Since 2005, I have been teaching this study around the globe, ok, slight exaggeration. Mostly in the states when I would travel to churches within a 2-3 hour distance for 12 weeks to
teach. And also online to a group in Spain and in person to a group in Israel.
In every class, the question will arise - my family won't do this - what do I do?
