2 things to do this month
Happy Tuesday
We are chilly and rainy. It looks and feels like January. How is your winter feeling?
It may be January, but it is time to put our plans to eat well and save money into action. Now is the best time to plan on saving money on groceries.
Consider these two steps this month to grow your
groceries.
January is the month I plan my gardens. I have a 3 ring binder called "My Garden". I know, not a very original title. But it works.
In the notebook, I plan what I want to grow and also what failed me last year. If I was on the ball last fall, those notes would already be here.
But typical for me, I get busy and forget to add notes. So,
now I will just remember :).
Step 1 - To plan the garden, January is the best month to plan and buy the seeds.
If you need inspiration for ideas, and new foods- check out this company.
Baker
Seed Company, if you are ever in the Springfield, Mo area, I highly suggest you stop by. It is a delightful trip. Good for most of us, they ship.
Last year, I had the best tomatoes from them. I can't wait to grow more this year. It was the Tomato, Black Cherry. I also grow the Watermelon, silver Yamato and Watermelon Orangeglow.

This planner will help you know when to plant, no matter where you live.
The second step is to sharpen all garden tools. By sharpening in January, they will be ready when you need them. It can be aggravating to reach for a tool and it is dull from years of use.
Two steps for January: Plan and buy; sharpen.
A perfect day for me is to walk out into the garden and just eat from the vine. I am
looking forward to some sweet peas right from the pod!
Let me know your favorite seed company.
Where to Plant?
If you have even a pot of soil on your balcony or patio - you have a garden.
It is not about how much land you have: it is about how much creativity you have. Keep in mind what grows well together and when
to pull one to start another. A pot or plot can be used 4 times with different plants in one growing season.
So, be creative, browse through the seeds, find some favorites, find some new options and then we wait. That is the hard part, waiting to start the seeds.
Planting can start next month!
Let's plan our grocery list now, with
seeds.
