Change often feels threatening. Altering what you do (your habits) can seem like altering who you are. Even if your current routine is disappointing, it might have a sort of predictable
safety. But change can feel like welcoming someone else’s pet into your home – who knows what it’ll mess up!
Even when we make the leap, we sometimes have the scars to prove it: the bruised shins from not quite making it as far as we wanted.
This is frustrating. We might even wonder, “When will God help me get over the hurdle I keep tripping over?”
But the promise He has given to us is clear:
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he
is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come (2 Corinthians 5:17)!”
What grace is available for us!
So, fellow new creation, rather than allow change
to feel like an enemy, let’s talk about how to embrace it.
What if the Lord isn’t calling you to leap? What if He is inviting you to take small steps? Incremental change can be your manageable strategy for growing into a spiritually and physically abundant life.
You see, by nature, we resist change for several reasons:
First, sticking with a pattern is more comfortable. Even positive change is stressful. We put so much effort into maintaining life as it is now that having to change course is a lot for our hearts,
brains, calendars, and relationships to accommodate.
Then there’s the social part. We’re social creatures and like to fit in. So we spend YEARS developing an identity — a safe place with others. We create an expectation and carve out a lane. After that, it’s scary to start again. We think, “What will others think of me? Will they judge me for trying something different?
Will they write me off if I don’t follow through?”
We ALL face these common hurdles.
But God is the God who promises to give us a new heart. To take the stale parts of our life and
breathe in fresh grace. That isn’t just a lofty ideal — it roots back to small and simple steps. (Like working zucchini into brownies!, tell me I'm not the only one who does that?)

We’ll go deep into how to start and gauge success with easy-to-manage minor changes in our free coaching call, How to Measure Success, on March 19th.
Make changes that are so small that they don’t seem like changes at all.
For example, have you ever used a metronome to practice music? You play a part of the song so slowly that it’s almost impossible to make a mistake…
When that speed becomes routine, and you can play it effortlessly, you set the metronome one click faster. JUST ONE CLICK!
Your brain and fingers won’t even notice — it’ll feel exactly the same. But this imperceptible progress moves you closer
to your goal. And while your brain can’t tell, you can look at the metronome (gauge success) and KNOW you are one click faster!
And after a relatively short amount of time, you’ll be playing the music up to speed.
So try this today by taking one small step in your physical, emotional, or spiritual journey:
Add some zucchini to your favorite brownie recipe
Add some lemon to your water first thing in the morning
Start your day off by proclaiming it will
be an AMEN day!
One small step is all that’s needed, and with time, transformation will surely happen.
The trick to keep the momentum going is what we’ll talk about on our
coaching call on Tuesday.

Like choosing to set the metronome, this step is as simple as moving one click up. True growth can be so easy that your heart and head won’t even notice.
