Hello, NYGC growers! This is Jordan J, your Coco for Cannabis website manager and hostess of the New Year’s Grow Challenge (NYGC) 2023! Please allow me to be the first to officially welcome you to the NYGC! We are excited to grow together! This newsletter contains important information about this year’s NYGC. First, I will explain what a grow challenge is, and I will highlight the key dates in the NYGC. Next, I will go over the NYGC theme, challenge groups, and how you can start your NYGC journal. Then, I’ll
explain a bit about our side challenge, the One Cola Challenge. Finally, we will wrap it up by talking about prizes and giveaways! |
What is a Grow Challenge? I’m glad you asked! At Coco for Cannabis, we love growing together! We host three grow challenges every year where we invite community members to grow together on a coordinated timeline. We all plan to drop our seeds on the same day, flip from veg to flower around a certain date, and harvest our plants around the same time. Despite what the name could imply, our grow challenges are not competitions! They are opportunities for new and experienced growers alike to grow together in the Spirit of Collaboration. We all grow together, record and share our progress with one another through special
challenge grow journals, and share knowledge and experience with each other along the way. |
NYGC Important Dates The NYGC starts at Midnight Eastern Standard Time on January 1st. We will have two options for Flip Dates for those of you growing photoperiod plants, February 1st and February 14th. For more information on these dates, please visit the challenge page. |
The NYGC Theme and Groups Every grow challenge has a challenge theme that we use to organize our challenge groups. This year’s NYGC theme is: Types of Growing Media! We organized our challenge groups based around what media you grow your cannabis plants in. There are four challenge groups in this NYGC: Soil/Peat, Coco, Water, and our signature Misfits group. You can read more about each group on the challenge page. After determining which group you’d
like to join, the next step is to create your NYGC journal! |
NYGC Forum and Journals The NYGC is all about growing together. We have many ways to collaborate and share with our Chat Room, Grower’s Forum, and our custom NYGC Forum. The NYGC forum is home to all of our NYGC grow journals, which are really the heart of the NYGC! We ask that all participants in the NYGC start and keep an updated NYGC Grow Journal. The fact that you got this
email means that you are registered for the NYGC. However, you need to start a journal in order to join a group. The NYGC is organized into four groups. You are free to join whichever group best fits your grow. To join a group, you simply start a grow journal in that group’s section of the NYGC 2023 forum. Important Note: The NYGC 2023 Forum is still in development, meaning it is not live yet. You will receive an email alerting you once the NYGC Forum is live. You will be able to start your NYGC journal at that time. |
NYGC Side Challenge: One Cola Challenge A side challenge is an optional, growing-related challenge that is open to everyone in the NYGC. It is not required, but it is a lot of fun! This year’s NYGC side challenge will be a One Cola
Challenge. The One Cola challenge involves cutting all of the lateral branches on your plant so that only one main stem remains. In order to be eligible for this contest, your
plant must be started in January, Flipped on February 14, and flower as a One Cola Plant, meaning you removed all of its lateral branches during veg. Only fan leaves are allowed to stay on the cola! If you would like to participate in the One Cola challenge, you can indicate that when you create your NYGC journal, and a special icon will be added to your journal’s grow box. Our challenge leaders will be paying close attention to those with One Cola plants. The winner of the One Cola challenge will receive a special prize, which brings us to our next topic! |
NYGC Prizes & Giveaways The NYGC is not a competition, but you can still win prizes! Throughout the grow, we will give prizes to reward and encourage collaboration. All of our prizes will require an “active NYGC grow journal”, which we define as journals with weekly updates made during the grow. Specific details for each prize or giveaway will be announced ahead of time. Certain prizes have geographical shipping
restrictions, but most prizes can be shipped to the US and Canada. If you win a prize but are in a location that we cannot ship to, you may designate another member to receive your prize in your place. |
In the Spirit of Collaboration During the NYGC, we will communicate regularly through these newsletters. Be sure to read these updates – they will keep you posted about all the giveaways, events, and progress throughout the NYGC. You can add our email to your address book to ensure that these announcements make it to your inbox. The Coco for Cannabis grow challenges are all about growing together and supporting each other so that we all have the most successful grows possible! Growing with a community is always more fun than growing alone, so please spread the word, and invite all of your growmies to join us in this year’s NYGC! Thank you for signing up for the NYGC! We are going to have great comradery, great prizes, great gardens, and great harvests! If you have any questions or need assistance with anything during the challenge, please feel free to email me at [email protected]. With Grower Love! Jordan J, Website Manager & NYGC Hostess |
