How are you Wild, Fierce and Beautiful?

Did you enjoy any "Random Acts of Kindness" last week? I left two friends some flowers on their doorstep, sent a beautiful card by snail mail and arranged to go for a walk with someone who was feeling lonely. You?

So, this week I found myself revisiting the idea of being "Wild, Fierce and Beautiful", a personal mantra I came up with at a difficult time. These powerful words still get me all fired up, and they're a crucial part of "connecting to yourself" (one of the 3 key areas in Fierce Kindness).

So, what do I mean by "Wild, Fierce and Beautiful"?

Well, being "Wild" is about connecting to the most quirky and interesting parts of ourselves - often the parts we shut down when young because they got us in trouble... Yet quirky is engaging; and when we are confidently quirky and different, it allows other people to embrace their difference too.

The Fierce in "Wild, Fierce and Beautiful" is about courage, determination, perseverance - and also intelligence. Fierceness knows the truth of things and doesn't look away. It's real and it's brave, and like wildness, it's also already in you just waiting to be embraced.

And finally Beauty. We must all learn to see the beauty in ourselves. Beyond physical traits, beauty is an inner quality. I believe true beauty is open, genuine and accepting. I also think beauty is wild (unique, a bit unexpected) and fierce - a strength and courage that we see behind the eyes...

So, how can we put this into action?

1) Connect with your Wildness! Bring out your contrariness, your distinctive and unique way of looking at things. Ask yourself:

What do people think is most interesting, different or quirky about me?
How can I be more that?

2) Connect to your Fierceness! Be stronger, more determined - and more courageous! Ask yourself:

Where could I look life (or someone else) in the eye more directly?
Where in my life could I take my bravery up a notch?

3) Connect with your Beauty! Feeling brave? It's amazing how challenging the following exercise can be... Try this:

Take a few moments to pause and really see yourself in a mirror. Look at yourself directly in the eyes to see BEYOND your appearance.
Now look deeply into your eyes and search out your beauty, ferocity and wildness. See your inner strength, courage and determination.
Keep looking (ignoring any awkwardness) and really see YOU - that inner spark that only you have!
And then - this is the easy part! - take a little piece of that back into your day... (and maybe email us and let us know how it goes!)

To change the world, we must start with ourselves. This practice of seeing yourself as "Wild, Fierce and Beautiful" IS Fierce Kindness!
