“How much did they first pay you to give up on your dreams?”

Emotional Moment of the Week
This past week a friend of mine for 20+ years passed away from cancer. We all have regrets in our lives. I have found that with regrets, just let it go and do better. There is no point in getting overly involved in self-flagellation. Focus on the good memories. And we had those.
I do sometimes wish I kept in better contact. Have to do better. Hope to visit with her kids later on when an event may be scheduled. just occurred to me that I believe that is for someone else to find and show to me. Because it will take someone else that I can trust, to convince me of what they find.
Parent/Student “Make me Smile” Moment
I have a number of long-term students. One of them, in the last month, has made huge strides. Oftentimes, it is just an issue of maturing. This week, he had a day off. When mom woke him up, he was studying geometry. No homework. No tests. #makemesmile
What I Am Reading
An Introduction to Constitutional Law (Chapter 3) — Wolters Kluwer
This one is a work in progress.
The Lion Trackers Guide to Life
I finished this. I could not recommend this more.
The LSAT Trainer - Mike Kim
This is a workbook and and an excellent one at that. This will be on my desk for the next 4 months and longer. I Plan on starting LSAT tutoring in the fall. No I am not a lawyer. A good portion of the LSAT however, _is_ logical reasoning and mathematical reasoning based as well as reading comprehension based on least partially on mathematical reasoning skills. #icandothis
Podcasts that I Listened to This Week
As usual, another mind blowing interview and individual. Sometimes I wonder how Tim can find and keep track of all of these simply unique individuals.
Kevin Kelly is truly the most Interesting Man in the World.
It is NOT the levels of success that people like Kevin Kelly enjoy that is inspiring and motivating to me. (After years of misdirection, and misguided searching, my motivation is internally generated.)
He is truly a polymath that knows no limits to his interests and he ACTS on those interests. When I think I am too busy to take on something that my soul screams for me to ACT on, well it doesn’t seem too hard when I consider what people like Kevin Kelly do.
Topics that I Started Learning/Relearning
- Resurrecting my MSEE degree topics. Started again, my Antennas design book/class. This would be a great class to tutor.
- My Russian language reader is by my bed!
- LSAT prep. Logical reasoning and logic based games.
Interesting Videos/Articles I Ran Across This Week
Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof got his name 'The Iceman' by breaking records related to cold exposure. These include: climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts, running a half marathon barefoot, in Finland and standing in a container while covered with ice cubes for nearly 2 hours.
Using 'cold, hard nature' as his teacher, his training has enabled him to learn to control his breathing, heart rate, and blood circulation and to withstand these kinds of extreme temperatures.
This got my eye this week. I have always loved real libraries.
