This Amish farmer has constructed a very visible place to sell tomatoes. It would also be handy for the mail carrier to make his purchase of a few tomatoes. Sign says "All on shelf for $1.00" "When I Got Saved"
"And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Acts 2:21). "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18).
"On This Day" website lists significant events that happened on specific dates. You can look for a specific date such as today's date for a given year. I looked up August 22, 1971 and it doesn't really have that many significant events listed and certainly does not list one of the most significant days in my life story.
Today I (Stephen) consider significant dates in my life. In early 1954 my story began when I was conceived, a highly significant event for me that I have absolutely no recollection of. Later that year on October 14 (24,785 days ago) I left the comfort of my mother's womb and was born the first time, another non-memory. I can't remember a lot such as when I learned to walk, talk, my numbers or colors. I never remember not
knowing the difference between a boy and a girl even though I didn't have a degree in biology.
But I have had many significant dates I can remember; graduations, our wedding, deaths of loved ones. Some dates are joyful, others painful, some brutally so, but all are a part of the mosaic of my story and may likely be part of your story as well.
I have an outstanding remembrance of what happened to me on this date in 1971. On Sunday evening, August 22, 1971 (18,629 days ago) I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior at
a revival meeting in the old Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO. An evangelist, Lowell Lunsdrom, preached the Gospel and the Spirit convicted my heart. This life and heart changing experience is expressed by Jesus in John 3 as being "born again". It's the day when I got saved! Today I renew my commitment to follow Christ!
Although my mom took us to church growing up I was not specifically challenged with the claims of Christ or plan of salvation until May of 1971 when my brother Pat shared the Gospel with me. He got saved while in the Air Force stationed in Europe. I initially resisted Christ's claim on my life but the period between knowing the truth and believing it placed me under great conviction. What a relief and burden was lifted when I
finally called on the name of the Lord and got saved!
In high school I had discipling associations with both Youth For Christ and Campus Crusade For Christ and then after graduation headed to Central Bible College where I met Brooksyne. We've been serving the Lord together ever since.
On the Day of Pentecost Peter preached and quoting from Joel, an OT prophet, he set forth a foundational truth for the birth of the church and the rebirth for every repentant sinner, "And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved".
The "everyone" is about as inclusive as you can get. That means you and me. It means "whosoever" will call on the name of the Lord! The terrified Philippian jailer asked Paul and Silas, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30). Paul and Silas responded, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Paul wrote in Romans 8:1, "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus". The word "condemnation" from the original Greek means "an adverse sentence." Because of Christ's death on the cross we are no longer objects of God's wrath, but we are His beloved children and can experience the joy of "no condemnation".
Today we ask you: Have you called on the Name of the Lord? Have you 'got saved'?
I'm undone by the mercy of Jesus
I'm undone by the goodness of the Lord I'm restored and made right He got a hold on my life I've got Jesus, how could I want more All of my guilt was erased.
The chains of the past are broken at last; I got saved, oh, I got saved! Be encouraged today, (Hebrews 3:13)

Daily prayer: Father, I thank You for the day I received Christ as my personal Savior, the day I got saved. It was 51
years ago today that my burden of sin was lifted, and it is Your nature to continue to seek and save the lost. Thank you that men and women, boys and girls all over the world are still getting saved and we celebrate those whose lives will be saved this very day. Red and yellow, black and white, they're all precious in Your sight. We pray for those who have come to faith after years of serving the devil. Thank You, Father, that Your saving grace saves to the uttermost and Your sustaining
grace keeps us on the straight and narrow! For all this and more, we thank You in Jesus' name. Amen.
Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources
"I Got Saved" Video Selah
"House Of The Lord" Video Our opening song yesterday in our church service at Calvary Church. The saxophone added a lot to the musical instrumentation yesterday.
"Hymn of Heaven" Video Closing song yesterday in our church service at Calvary Church. I (Brooksyne) could no longer sing but softly weep as I envisioned the thrilling reality of someday participating in this most wondrous event of all time standing with the angels, saints, and heroes of our faith and "with a mighty roar"
declare: FOREVER HE SHALL REIGN!
"And on that day, we join the resurrection
And stand beside the heroes of the faith
With one voice, a thousand generations
Sing, 'Worthy is the lamb who was slain
FOREVER HE SHALL REIGN'!
So let it be today we shout the hymn of Heaven
With angels and the saints, we raise a mighty roar Glory to our God who gave us life beyond the grave Holy, holy is the Lord" * "On This Day" Enter your birthday or any day and find out what happened on that day!
Here's a widget to find out how many days between two dates. Helpful in practicing Psalm 90:12
We joined Sue and John Stover on Friday evening in their beautiful back yard for an air fried chicken dinner and uplifting fellowship. They moved to Lancaster a couple years ago from the Philadelphia area and attend our Sunday School class.
The last several years we have been enjoying tomato pie. Brooksyne is always looking for the "best" recipe so I get to be the taste tester and I like that title. We first ate tomato pie at the aptly named Tomato Pie Cafe in Lititz and she has been making it ever since. Brooksyne baked her newest recipe in our convection oven last week and it was one of her best.
The crust included sharp cheddar cheese which made it a real winner. I realize I really like the Maillard Reaction.
