Columbia County flowers in tree stump 6/28/17
Here's a good idea if you have a big tree stump. The plants are in pots embedded in holes in the stump! In fact, Brooksyne has done the same thing with sedum about a week ago. She embedded some soil into "cavities" of the tree stump and inserted the sedum stems. It seems to be taking - we'll see!!

"Every Victory"

Message summary: Today we encourage you with the steadfast hope we have in Christ which will lead to every victory! "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

"For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:24-28). "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Collin Gingrich Yesterday we attended a luncheon prayer meeting and heard Collin Gingrich, the associate pastor of Proclamation Presbyterian Church (PCA)here in Mount Joy give a short devotional on prayer based on several verses from Romans 8. We have come to expect consistently good exposition from PCA pastors and this was no exception.

I spoke to him afterwards and told him his message was a blessing and might prompt a daily encouragement. Preachers are always pleased to see their ministry extended!

He broke the text up into three points and as a mnemonic bonus he used alliteration:

Our handicap: " Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought." Today we have on our hearts specific people who are undergoing difficult trials. They feel weak and somewhat helpless in knowing just how to pray about the matter.

Our help: "B ut the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." What a calm assurance it brings to know that the Holy Spirit is interceding for us!

Our hope: " And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose." The Bibleref commentary states, "The word 'good' does not necessarily mean happy or painless or financially successful or our idea of the best possible outcome on any given day. God's ultimate good for us is to glorify us in eternity (Revelation 21:1–4). Beyond that, God works in and through us toward an ultimate good that serves His purpose for the universe."

As Collin shared his message the words to a song we have enjoyed came to mind titled "Every Victory".

We will lift our eyes
We won’t fear the fight
There is One who’s stronger
Hard pressed on each side
We will not lose sight
Of the One who’s greater

One name, one name holds every victory
One voice that silences the enemy
One king who reigns for all eternity
Jesus, Jesus

Today we encourage you with the steadfast hope we have in Christ! "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Be encouraged today, ( Hebrews 3:13)

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, we thank You for the unseen hope that requires us to wait with patience. In the process of waiting You grow in us the fruit of  patience. During the wait the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we don't always know what or how to pray as we ought, so we are thankful that the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. It reassures us that You are working on our behalf according to Your plan, Father. For we know that all things work together for good, for those who are called according to Your purpose. How thankful we are for the ultimate victory we have through Christ Jesus in whose name we pray. Amen.
