"Living In The
Preface"
Message
summary:
Today we consider living in the preface of a never-ending book and Christ's command to "
lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven"
. At the moment of Christ's return we realize
"nothing else matters".
Listen to our message on your audio player.
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and
rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:19-21).

This coming Lord's Day I am teaching from our daily passage as part of a
church series on the Sermon on the Mount. For this section the main emphasis is "but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven". This is vital since we tend to place so much emphasis on the preface of life!
I suspect each living generation considers a special significance to their own. But the Bible tells us, "generations come and generations go" (Ecclesiastes 1:4). ![]() At 40 years of age Moses made a critical decision to identify with God and His people. Essentially he was practicing what Jesus would teach we are to do some 1,400 years later, "laying up treasures in heaven". ![]() I encourage you to ponder this Scripture passage today especially the last phrase, "he was looking ahead to his reward". That ought to also be our primary outlook today. Are we looking ahead to our reward? As we live in the preface of life's book are we laying up treasures in heaven?
Be encouraged today,
(Hebrews 3:13
)

Resources
Here's the selection of worship songs from the Calvary Church Choir and Orchestra from yesterday's service Watch video on YouTube Brooksyne's note: I always enjoy our worship songs but today I will highlight our third selection, "Holy is He". It's an older song arranged by David Clydesdale. The congregation joins us after a bit with "Holy, Holy, Holy" and the choir sings along. On the third verse of "Holy, Holy, Holy" the sopranos and tenors sing a descant and it was such a special time of worship for me. I hope it will touch your heart as well. Stephen's note:
In the book, "When Christ
Comes" Max Lucado describes a grand vision of the Lord's return. He writes that once we get a glimpse of that glorious future event we will realize that "Nothing else matters." He gives a perspective contrasting all the "treasures" that so often consume our minds and hearts on this side of eternity and what will happen at the return of the
Lord.
"The angels bow their heads. The elders remove their crowns. And before
you is a figure so consuming that you know, instantly you know: Nothing else matters. Forget stock markets and school reports. Sales meetings and football games. Nothing is newsworthy. All that mattered, matters no more, for Christ has come."
The three words that prompted my recollection of this reading are "Nothing else matters". Let us stay faithful today in proclaiming that which really does matter! The following excerpt is from a Max Lucado album from the late 90's. Here's the narration that really touched me: Listen on YouTube To receive the "Daily Encouragement" each Monday-Friday through email see here to sign up for our email list.
