Sunday evening was beautiful! Numerous paragliders filled the sky over the large field across the road from us (I counted six in one setting). Perhaps some of these paragliders
got their aircraft for Christmas presents in December. "Paragliding is the closest to flying like a bird that any human can be, since paragliders are ultralight and flexible, and uses the wind as its sole propellant, without the need for an engine or fuel"
(wikipedia).
"Why Me Lord?"
(Part 2)
Message summary:
I want to personally appropriate this essential truth in my life today, I am a child
of God! What greater type of riches can there possibly be than the riches of God's grace and the love He lavished on us? So we indeed worship-fully ask, "Why me Lord?"
Listen to our message on your audio player.
"At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I
have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision" (Daniel 9:23). “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us” (Ephesians 1:7,8). "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John
3:1).
Yesterday we shared a message titled the very same as today's message,
"Why Me Lord?" That message was written from the perspective of one who may think or ask, while enduring a hard trial, "Why Me Lord?"
Today let us consider another perspective based on the same three word
question. Many years ago a song was written and titled "Why Me Lord?" which was very popular for awhile. Some of you will recall it. It still blesses me as I listened to it while preparing today's message! Check out the version we have linked to below by the Gaither Vocal Band.
Why me Lord, what have I ever done
To deserve even one Of the pleasures I've known Tell me Lord, what did I ever do That was worth lovin' you Or the kindness you've shown.
In this perspective we joyfully proclaim, "Why Me Lord?" as we
wonder why we
are
the recipients of God's marvelous love, grace and mercy.
I had this thought in mind on Sunday as I sat in our church service and
observed those around us. Of course there were many local, long-time Lancaster County folks, likely of German descent. But across the aisle from us was a young Russian couple and several rows behind them was an older Ukrainian couple who used some type of electronic device to translate the service. Several rows ahead of us was an African
couple.
Such a setting reminds me that we are part of a global family comprised of
the redeemed in Christ. All may hear and receive God's word to Daniel, "You are greatly loved".
The service concluded with the great hymn "The Love Of God" which
so powerfully tries to describe the extent of God's love, grace and mercy.
All we who have placed our faith in Jesus Christ have the greatest type of
riches, “the riches of God’s grace lavished on us”! The word “lavish” means to “superabound.” His grace is indeed always more than sufficient.
Today let us consider our third daily Scripture text, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" I want to personally appropriate this truth in my life today, I am a child of God! What greater type of riches can there possibly be than the riches of God's grace and the love He lavished on us? So we ask indeed worship-fully, "Why me Lord?"
Be encouraged
today,
Hebrews
3:13

Additional study note regarding our 2nd text:
This is a powerful
reminder of why life is worth the living no matter what circumstances we face. Paul, writing here from a Roman prison, could have consumed his time and energy with legalities that would free him from his confined status. But instead he focused on God’s matchless grace and powerfully expressed this truth to others.
By God’s glorious grace he rose above his dire circumstances and gave selflessly as he wrote of the grace and blessing which God poured into Him right in the midst of his external troubles. The authorities thought they were rendering Paul powerless by keeping him in confinement, but God had much bigger plans. In the midst of his captivity he was inspired to write life-changing truths that could only be revealed by the Holy Spirit that would release the prison doors for those held captive by the prince of darkness at that time and now for nearly 2,000 years as a part of the Holy Scriptures. As we consider the deplorable, cramped surroundings from which these life changing words were written it is a further testimony to God’s unleashed power when a transformed life is sensitive and obedient to God’s leading. God’s power is not limited by our lack of finances, a physical affliction, limited education, or any other external circumstance. Nothing is lacking when we fully depend upon God’s grace.

Note:
This song has some moving elements but a somewhat vague
theology.
Why me Lord, what have I ever done
To deserve even one Of the pleasures I've known Tell me Lord, what did I ever do That was worth lovin' you Or the kindness you've shown. Lord help me Jesus, I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I need you so Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand.
Tell me Lord, if you think there's a way
I can try to repay All I've taken from you Maybe Lord, I can show someone else What I've been through myself On my way back to you. Lord help me Jesus, I've wasted it so Help me Jesus I know what I am Now that I know that I need you so Help me Jesus, my soul's in your hand. "The Love Of God"

“Wonderful Grace of Jesus”
Watch on YouTube
This is a hymn that attempts to quantify the magnificent grace of Jesus by using depth and dimension to describe the countless riches of His grace. We might do that as well when we try to describe to others how wealthy a person might be, either through what they own, their prosperous lifestyle or their associations with powerful people. But the words of this hymn makes the description of one’s accumulations and
associations on earth pale in significance to the wealth of God’s grace given to us through Christ Jesus!
Wonderful the matchless grace of Jesus,
Deeper than the mighty rolling sea; Wonderful grace, all sufficient for me, for even me. Broader than the scope of my transgressions, Greater far than all my sin and shame, O magnify the precious Name of Jesus. Praise His Name! "Who Am I?"
