2 Chronicles 32:7,8

"The Arm Of Flesh Will Fail You"

Message summary: Today let us take confidence in these words and this timeless truth, "But with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles". Make sure you are plugged into God's power and that you stay plugged in!

"'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.' And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah” (2 Chronicles 32:7-8).

Power strip Yesterday Brooksyne had a project for me in hanging an electrical plug-in strip near our bed so she could plug in multiple electrical devices. I completed the project so I mentally checked it off my "Honey do list" but later that night she told me it didn't work. Well, I insisted that I had plugged it in and it should work fine.

However upon closer examination I discovered I had plugged the power strip plug back into the power strip! Now if I could get that to work I would have a valuable invention!

Note regarding photo: the power strip also had several other devices plugged in and the cord was dangling down out of sight so my mistake was not as apparent as seen in the photo!

Well, this got me thinking (as mundane things often do)... from where do we get the power for living a victorious life, from self or from a higher power, namely God? Realistically, far too often I seek to get the power the wrong way and don't rely on God, but then the line of an old hymn reminds me, "the arm of flesh will fail you". Plugging into the same power strip to get electric power is similar to our relying on the "arm of flesh" to receive spiritual power!

Today's Scripture portion describes a time when Judah was under attack by Sennacherib king of Assyria and King Hezekiah gave a word of encouragement to the fearful people. It's a hidden gem that I have no record of ever using in my teachings.

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed." This is so similar to the charge that Joshua gave the people in Joshua 1:7, "Only be strong and very courageous".  Later Paul wrote, "Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" (Ephesians 6:10).

"For there are more with us than with him". In this case I don't believe a larger army is being referred to but rather the "more" that God always provides. "Just as Hezekiah organized his army, our prayers organize and activate God’s army." (Wellspring Christian Ministries)

"With him (Sennacherib) is an arm of flesh" . He had a mighty army but it was no match against God's army. His reliance was entirely in the physical realm.

"But with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles".  Many of us have enjoy singing "Battle Belongs" by Phil Wickham and especially this verse:

Almighty Fortress You go before us
Nothing can stand against
The power of our God
You shine in the shadows
You win every battle
Nothing can stand against
The power of our God

The unchangeable God continues to be with us to help us and fight our battles. Rely on Him alone today!

"And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah”. Today may all of us also take confidence in these words and this timeless truth, "But with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles".*

Make sure you are plugged into God's power and that you stay plugged in, for the arm of flesh will fail you!

Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13

Praying man Daily prayer: Father, we serve You, our omnipotent God who is all-powerful. You not only have ultimate power over all things but You are also the source of all power. You are our faithful King who lovingly reigns over us holding us securely in Your hand. Knowing this in our minds and believing it with our hearts helps us to stand unshaken, by all that threatens to defeat and destroy us, since we walk by faith and not by sight. Thank You, God, for sending Your Spirit to guide, embolden and empower us as we walk through this life in Christ's name we pray. Amen.
