Steam
engine on the
Strasburg
Railroad
"Bound For Paradise" Message summary: When we place our faith in Christ we are indeed bound for the true paradise of God, which is an eternally glorious destination.
Listen
to our message
on your audio
player. " To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7). Yesterday
we took a
train ride on
the Strasburg
Railroad which
is among
the most
popular
tourist
attractions
here in
Lancaster
County. This
is an historic
rail line that
has been
converted into
a tourist
attraction,
with a train
powered by a
restored steam
engine. (This
short line
also still
hauls
freight).
Founded in
1832 it is the
oldest
continuously
operating
short-line
railroad in
America. It
travels
through the
beautiful
Amish
countryside in
eastern
Lancaster
County from
Strasburg to
Paradise, PA
where there is
a junction
with the main
line. When we
visit the Old
Windmill Farm
we often hear
the distinct
sound of the
steam whistle
over a hill
just beyond
the farm.
Be encouraged today, Hebrews 3:13

* Paradise,
PA is, a small
hamlet about
25 miles east
of where we
live. It is
often included
in a list of
"delightfully
named towns"
in
Pennsylvania
Dutchland,
along with
Intercourse,
Blue Ball,
Lititz,
Bareville,
Bird-in-Hand,
and our own
mailing
address, Mount
Joy. Having
lived here for
the last 23
years we’ve
grown
accustomed to
these names
but we still
overhear
tourists
chuckling. Today's Suggested Music and Supplemental Resources

As
our eyes were
turned to the
train window
we saw
beautiful
pasture land
growing with
corn and other
healthy
produce. This
is one view we
enjoyed. To
the far left
is the Amish
school house
and farms in
the
background.

Before
our train ride
we stopped by
the Old
Windmill Farm
where three of
the younger
children
joined us on
the train
ride. OWF had
many guests
who especially
enjoy the
horse-drawn
hay wagon
ride.

On
our 45 minute
train ride we
all had our
heads turned
toward the
windows as
there was much
to view while
the train
rolled down
the track.
Here the
children are
looking over a
slight ridge
where they can
see the
windmill and
silos on their
own farm
(OWF).

The
train passes
the Cherry
Crest
Adventure Farm,
another one of
Lancaster
County's top
tourist
attractions.
This corn will
be a maze
later in the
season.

As
we left the
farm we waited
while this
tractor and
wagon drove
past us.
Lizzie told us
it was freshly
butchered meat
in the large
buckets being
hauled
somewhere for
processing.
With the hot
day I sure
hope he didn't
have a long
trip!
