A Prichard city councilman was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he was indicted by a grand jury last month on two counts of insurance fraud, prosecutors said.

Councilman Derrick Griffin was indicted by a Mobile County grand jury in December after prosecutors presented the panel with evidence that he “made fraudulent representations on two different occasions in connection with an insurance policy,” said Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood.

The charges stem from Griffin allegedly misrepresenting on his insurance policies that he acquired a vehicle he did not own, the DA’s office said.

“This indictment is part of a larger investigation,” Blackwood said in a statement. “The public interest is always served by pursuing justice.”

Griffin’s bond was set at $10,000 -- $5,000 for each count.
