BAYTOWN, Texas — A Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was hit by a car Thursday morning during a traffic stop on I-10 East at  Sheldon Road in Baytown.

Life Flight was called to the scene and landed on the freeway but was not able to fly back to the hospital due to the weather. Other emergency crews were called and two people were taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.

Lanes were closed in both directions but westbound lanes were reopened. Transtar cameras showed traffic being diverted from the freeway.

Commuters are advised to choose another route.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

KHOU 11 has a crew on the way. We will bring you updates as they become available.
