WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) -A new adventure and new chapter begins Feb. 1 for Chief Miller.

Chief Miller said his time on patrol, the motorcycle unit, swat, gang task force, and being a detective. Is all the experience he is bringing with him into this new position.

“Understanding different arenas, different opportunities and agencies. Different things that we can do better. I bring a little bit of that to the table from each of those sections so it’s a great opportunity.” Police Chief Donald Miller said.

With each new position comes its own set of challenges no matter the size of the agency. Chief Miller plans to tackle these challenges especially when it comes to the residents of the Burkburnett.

“The challenges that exist for Burkburnett is just getting out into the community. Making sure that we are part of the community. We want to be more cohesive agency with our city and our community. We want to make sure their community engagement.” Chief Miller said.

Chief Miller adds that he wants to reinforce those expectations from the police department.

Burkburnett City manager Fred Tillman, who is also the former police chief for Burkburnett, said when it came to hiring a new chief. They were looking at experience on paper, but also for some key character traits.

Like being a true servant leader and putting others before themselves. All of which played a role in them finalizing their choice.

“The moment Chief Miller walked into the room. We could tell that he was somebody that was very, very down to earth. That would speak openly. That was someone of integrity and that did in fact think about other people more than himself.” Burkburnett City Manager Fred Tillman said.

Chief Miller has a message for the residents of Burkburnett.

“The citizens and community of Burk know that we’re going to do everything we can to be open, transparent, and provide them the best service possible,” Chief Miller said.
