Zavalla City Council accepts resignation of public works director, city secretary

They approved hiring interim police chief Robert Denby as the permanent police chief.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Zavalla City Council met on Monday night with important personnel decisions ahead of them.

Council members went into executive session regarding the resignation of Tom Bailey, who has been serving as public works director. They said they needed to see a video wherein Bailey gave a verbal resignation before they decided to accept it; at 7:45, they came out of executive session, and stated that they do accept his resignation.

They said they will not be restructuring the public works position, but will use contract labor until they hire the next person to fill the position.

Also on Monday night’s agenda was the hiring of a chief of police. They approved hiring interim police chief Robert Denby as the permanent police chief.

They approved the resignation of city secretary Shannon Massey, as well. They did not say when the job will be posted.
