Celestial background with plants and flowers with their roots extending down to a person in a wheelchair with a megaphone, a group of people protesting, and an elderly couple dancing.
The City of Austin's Another World is Possible, on Saturday, January 27, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Vuka North Lamar, located at 5540 N Lamar Blvd. This free event is designed to bring Austin-area community members, organizers, and City employees together to connect and strategize for equitable futures for all Austinites. The intent of the forum is to showcase how local organizations and the City of Austin’s Equity Office are working toward racial equity in and around Austin, and to have conversations about working together on equity related issues and initiatives. Attendees will learn how the City’s Equity Office and different organizations use and are guided by the GARE Framework (Government Alliance on Race and Equity) to normalize, organize, and operationalize equity.

Another World is Possible will feature community panelists and organizations including 2024 Texas Poet Laureate, Amanda Johnston, Rhys Caraway (Allgo), Rebecca Sanchez, Community Powered ATX, La’arni Ayuma of Ayuma Healing Arts, and more! Panel discussions will tackle topics such as community organizing strategies, art as resistance, immigrant rights, and equitable land-use policies for Austinites. Attendees will also have opportunities for art activation including screen printing and a collaging/visioning activity to learn about getting involved in the City’s budgeting process.

ASL and Spanish interpretations will be available along with complimentary breakfast and lunch. Event attendees are encouraged to bring their own personal reusable water bottle, if possible, and are also invited to contribute items such as photos, drawings, or mementos to our community altar in efforts to honor and uplift our ancestors and loved ones.

If you have any questions about the forum, please contact Ayshea Khan, Equity Office Program Coordinator, at (512) 974-9124, or at [email protected].

Space is limited to 175 participants, so please register at bit.ly/equityforum2024 today to secure your attendance. You can also find out more information about the Equity Forum including speakers, panelists, and the Forum program at https://www.austintexas.gov/page/equity-forum
