CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - The City of Canyon checks off another project from its Capital Improvement Plan with over $1 million for neighborhood improvements.

The city received a $350,000 grant, which will fund 33 percent of the over $1 million project.

The project will replace six blocks of water main and seven blocks of sewer main, improving approximately 60 utility accounts.

“The water and sewer existing there is old, dilapidated, it’s one of our oldest neighborhoods in town. It’s really close to the original town site, right off 23rd. So, its right in the heart of Canyon,” said Joe Price, City Manager of Canyon.

This project was added to the Canyon Capital Improvement Plan and has been high on its list for the last four years.

In 2020, Canyon city staff collected over 80 door-to-door surveys of residents in the area.

“We knew the project was warranted and needed in this area, so that checked a lot of boxes for us, and this is one of our better projects to improve, directly improve services of our residents,” said Price.

The project does not currently have a start date, but is projected to take over 200 days to complete.
