AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The City of Amarillo is set to use a contracting company to improve the management and maintenance of trees.

This $450,000 annual contract was awarded to Arborlogical Inc. under the agreement that they will maintain and manage greenery in parks and public building sites.

Trimming, pruning, removal and planting of trees are all upkeep they’ll be involved in taking care of.

“The city was already spending this amount of money doing work internally but because of staffing challenges, we were able to contract and shift,” said Director of Parks and Recreation Michael Kashuba.

The city says it saw significant staff reductions in recent years and are already utilizing contractors in several departments.

“It will allow us to call them up, put in a work order and then obviously if the work doesn’t get done, we don’t pay them. So, there’s some accountability there for taxpayers,” said Kashuba.

If the city’s needs are met, they will continue this partnership and are set to spend no more than $1.8 million in a span of four years.
