BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Bryan Fire Department has been very busy since the temperatures have dropped only a few days ago.

Since Friday, the Bryan Fire Department has responded to almost 200 medical calls.

They have responded to numerous fire alarm calls, water flow alarm calls, as well as many road accidents.

Chis Lamb, the Public Information Officer for the Bryan Fire Department, says they doubled on staff and resources in order to be prepared for anything that could’ve happened. Some of those extra resources include an extra Battalion Chief, fire engines, a second community paramedic, and a utility truck to respond to the increase in water flow alarms.

“Obviously when we hit cold temperatures like this, our call volume is going to go up, especially with certain types of calls. We’ve seen an increase in obviously car accidents, people getting out on the roads whenever the roads were really slick, they are getting a lot better now. But still, I would tell everyone to be mindful, look out for the black ice, and just don’t drive unless you don’t have to,” said Lamb.

Lamb says they have been utilizing the community paramedic program and the extra utility truck to give community members rides to the warming shelter over the past few days.
