ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene contractor accused of using $80,000 worth of a customer’s money for other projects has been arrested.

Ysmael Olvera was taken into custody for Misappropriation of Fiduciary Property Wednesday in connection to the allegations.

Court documents state that a customer contracted Olvera to build a barndominium in March 2023, paying him nearly $126,500 to complete the work.

This customer says Olvera had concrete poured for the project but never did anything else. He would also give the customer receipts for materials, but the customer says the materials were never delivered.

In October 2023, the documents state detectives interviewed Olvera, who admitted he was using this customer’s money for other, unrelated projects.

He stated he was going to pay the customer back the $80,000 owed, but only paid $1,000 and has not made any other payments.

Olvera now remains held in the Taylor County Jail on bonds totaling more than $200,000.
