During its Tuesday regular meeting, the Frisco City Council approved a $1.1 million agreement with design firm Freese & Nichols, Inc. for the design of Iron Horse Trail.

The 3.5-mile green belt trail segment is slated to be developed along the Stewart Creek tributary between Stonebrook Parkway and Lebanon Road, according to city documentation. The path is expected to connect the future Grand Park site and the existing Big Blue Stem Trail to Beavers Bend Park, BF Philips Community Park and the 1135 Wetlands.

City documentation states that the trail is expected to be 12 to 14 feet wide and to include a series of bridge crossings. The trail is slated to be a part of an overall network of regional trails and will ultimately connect to the city of The Colony.

The services outlined in the agreement with Freese & Nichols includes topographic surveying, base mapping, hydraulic and hydrologic analysis, environmental services, feasibility studies for potential trail alignment, program development, trail master plan, preliminary design, design development and more, according to city documentation.
