WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Officials in Williamson County said it wanted to make residents aware of fraudulent calls involving warrants for not reporting for jury duty.

“People have been receiving calls from someone who claims to be a county official or law enforcement officer telling the victim that he or she has failed to appear for jury duty and is threatening arrest by failure to appear,” the county said.

Officials said the caller then told the person to pay a certain amount of money or else they would be arrested.

The county said it wanted to assure people this was not a practice used in Williamson County for jurors who do not appear for jury service.

Anyone wanting to file a report regarding this type of call should contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office at 512-943-1300.
