The City of Jourdanton is inching closer to hiring a city secretary and police chief announced on Monday evening during the regular city council meeting.

City Manager Debbie Molina said the city has received around 30 applicants for city secretary as the position is set to close on Monday.

Of the 30 that have applied, Molina said 11 have filed the required City of Jourdanton application.

On April 24, city council members are expected to begin sifting through the applicants and possibly have a city secretary as May rolls around.

Molina also reported that the city has received 11 applicants for police chief, two of which are experienced and selected by a search committee for the candidate.

The applicants will be reviewed by the end of April.

Seven street lights will be installed on SH-97 from Main St. to Willow St. in Jourdanton, approved by councilmembers.

The installation will include seven new poles and lights at a cost of $28,237.37 plus daily construction traffic control costs of $3,675.72 per day.

AEP Affairs Manager Jimmy Earnest told councilmembers the project is estimated at four days.

City council members approved of street closures during the Jourdanton 1909 Founders’ Days scheduled for May 17-18.

The 1300 block of Simmons Ave. along with the 900, 1,000 and 1,100 blocks of Main St. and the 1300 block of Crouch St. have been approved for closures dring the festival.

Closures will begin at noon on Friday, May 17 and re-open at 7 a.m. on Sunday, May 19.
