December 2021 - Year two of the disrupted decade
|
Hi
Thank you for being a reader of Transition Edge. Please feel free to forward it to friends who you think might enjoy it too.
I’m Grant Symons. I convene Transition Edge to help us understand how we can transition to a low carbon sustainable world using leading thinking and practices.
Sense making practice, imagination, critical thinking, raising consciousness and working with our instincts, all help to build confidence and resilience. 2022 might be a year that confronts us with an increasing number of challenges and choices.
This week we put the ball in your court. What do you see, think and feel? What questions might come from your experience... and what comes next...will you choose or do something different tomorrow or next year?
Who did you see first? Where are you coming from?
Whatever perspective we have, it pays to remember there are usually many more - taking time to explore them might just save the world!
China is a significant CO2 producer, but not when you take into account the size of their population and that they make a lot of...the worlds 'stuff'. And we keep dreaming about the cheap solar panels they might make for us in future...really?
In France there are now incentives to take a train instead of a plane. Above a recent review of Swedish attitudes to air travel shows changing sentiment - are you sensing changes in attitudes towards air travel?
If organisations have learning difficulties now, how will they adapt in future? What kind of organisations do you prefer to be part of, support or leave?
How do you feel about the rise of artificial intelligence? Super computing has come a long way since 2017, including facial recognition and surveillance technology. What shouldn't be done with it?
If Dame Whina Cooper were with us today, what might she be saying to those of us supposedly leading the transition to a sustainable future?
We talk a lot, but are we even on a/the road? Are you doing the REAL work?
Rongoā is the Māori term for medicine. Tanya (of our reference group) and Angela welcomed and engaged all-comers in Wellington recently. There was a wonderful sharing of knowledge about regional and
local regenerative activity with urban farmers, chefs, urban planners, architects, creatives and scientists, through exploration of the medicinal properties of native trees and plants, and the regenerative Rongoā forest in Brooklyn - more here. What if you have to rely on natural medicines one day?
Perhaps you have some questions or thoughts to follow up on, over the holidays?
This weeks quote
“The three most charismatic leaders in this century inflicted more suffering on the human race than almost any trio in history: Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. What matters is not the leader's charisma. What matters is the leader's mission.”
- Peter Drucker
Our questions are: what is the (true) mission of each of New Zealand's current political leaders?, and perhaps more succinctly, do they even understand their role in our current predicament?
Bookings for Real Transition Leaders - 2022 Courses
We are taking bookings for Real Transition Leaders courses for February and March, lets talk about your requirements and opportunities. (The first course for February only has a few places left and we have 3 more courses partially filled and some interesting discussions happening with large organisations)
We plan to have more than one hundred leaders in the community by the end on 2022 - we would love to have you join the movement too, it will be the place to continue learning the developing practice of Real Transition.
