Thank you for being a reader of Transition Edge. Please feel free to forward it to friends who you think might enjoy it too.
I’m Grant Symons. I convene Transition Edge to help us understand how we can transition to a low carbon sustainable world using leading thinking and practices.
Lets face it, the global economy is under pressure, we all know that the climate is changing, the deniers and naysayers are changing their story to "it's too late to change anyway", while the shrewd have been gaming carbon offset and incentive schemes for years.
The politicians continue to wax and wane as they try to figure out how to look good and get votes, in any event... as we drift along, seemingly 'at the whim of these events!' ... pretty much, it is all business as usual.
Meanwhile, around the globe there are thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of people - in far away governments, companies, banks, financial and insurance institutions, all pondering, planning, or are in some way contributing to the transition we are going to get. By extension, they affect NZ organisations that are tapped into this 'leading edge thinking', 'new models' and 'latest breakthrough policies or technologies'.
There is virtually unlimited money and resource available to work on this 'project' so that it works for their interests - super computers, artificial intelligence, experts, economists, thought leaders, political muscle and lobbying clout.
And lets not forget we are talking about the systems they work for and their jobs, incentives, careers, and opportunities - to make a name for themselves. And even if the advice, models and solutions they come up with never see the light of day, (and if they do, and they end up causing more harm than good), they will be long gone.
LETS STOP RIGHT THERE!
Who should be in charge of our transition anyway?
Should there be a Transition Agency that we don't get to influence?, or should Agency for Transition... belong to us?
