The Climate Collage Workshop
was developed by Cedric Ringenbach, an engineering professor of climate science and energy, based in France, to make the 2000-page Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report accessible to everyone.
The workshop itself is an opportunity meet, talk, share, debate, create and explore what is relevant for us as an individual, community and region, while working through the major dimensions and relationships related to climate change.
The council understands that the Transition is a strategic and long-term challenge that requires continuous learning, appropriate methodology and the ability to model scenarios and measure progress.
It is acknowledged that the region has significant agricultural emissions, and that like all regions in New Zealand, environmental, cost of living and social equity challenges are intrinsic within the
transition.
This work requires engagement and alignment of people from all parts of the community and economy. And it requires leaders and influencers with
the energy and ability to create transition activities that are inclusive, synergistic and compatible with long term prosperity. The city and regional councils already have a solid track record and are building on this foundation.

This week's quote
“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
We were surprised at the feedback about last week's article, Academics that suck. A number of ex academics wrote in to say these were exactly the reasons they moved on from their organisation!. It seems that commercialisation, corporatisation and managerialism are common root cause problems, while the young
(paying customers) take the hit. Here in New Zealand our university staff are currently on strike, seeking a significant pay increase to try and keep up with cost of living increases.
