Wanna see Santa in a thong?

From the friendly caves of Pixie Hollow.

In 1974, Judas Priest released its debut single Rocka Rolla.

She's a classy, flashy lassy
Imitation sapphire shine
Two-faced liar, full of fire
But I know the flame is mine

Those of you who know this fantastic band know that the frontman Rob Halford is gay, and that the leather and studs look of the band he brought over from the gay scene.

So, um, this song is about women? Yup.

At the time Rocka Rolla was written, K.K. Downing was the band's frontman. Halford came in later. He sang whatever already existed and what existed were the first heavy metal songs, which were a very heterosexual.

None of the songs from this album have been performed live by Priest since the '70s.

Not surprising, really.

Decades later, in an interview with Rob for the release of his album Winter Songs - which was about this time of year - he acknowledged to that it must be strange to be talking about a Christmas album with 'winter' in the title during the heat of an Australian summer.

I laughed, said yeah our Santa wears thongs.

"Ooh," Halford commented saucily. "I'd like to see Santa in a thong."

Cue yours Pixieness facepalming herself on the Australian end of the phone for her Aussieness, forgetting that Poms think things are g-strings and not footwear.

I may have gasped with laughter.

I still have that audio recording.

One day I'll release it. Ha!

My point today is that you can't judge the source of content based on the content of the, er, content. (Oh man the terminology...)

In other words, the art is not the artist.

Art just is.

And if you think you're not creating art because you're deploying content for business purposes, then you immediately devalue the entire process and beauty of creation.

Maybe this is why so many businesses struggle to keep their content moving:

Business isn't messy.

Art is.

Can the two coexist?

Absolutely. Provided the former gives room to the latter.
