Get thee some of the hidden Sprezzatura!

From the friendly caves of Pixie Hollow.

The word sprezzatura is Italian and it has no equivalent in English.

It means something like effortless, nonchalant, leisurely masterfulness.

In English this is an oxymoron: A combination of words with almost opposite meanings. And therefore it's 'incorrect' in English.

But it can make you look fabulous.

Imagine that you've dressed yourself super carefully. Everything is clean, well pressed but not too sharp. Your garments fit you just so. Your nail polish (should you be one of those who wear the stuff) matches the tiny details in the embroidery near your shoulder but only someone who got up close would notice. Your handbag and shoes match one of the major but non-dominant colours. Everything is complementary in colour, just to the right length and shape. Your makeup (again, if you're one of those who wear it) is carefully and artfully applied so that you naturally look like you haven't spent two hours in front of the mirror (you have). Your hair is scrambled up so that it sits perfectly, but messily, but perfectly.

And you step out into the world looking like you have an effortless, perfect style.

It may have taken you forever to get dressed.

You probably spent two hours in the bathroom.

You prepared your outfit the night before, painstakingly matching accessories with the outfit. You painted your nails before you went to bed.

Those with whom you share a latte over morning tea admire you but don't say anything because you always look so freaking good dammit and they don't know how because it looks effortless.

Their conscious minds don't register the fact that those tiny embroided details match your nail polish but their subconscious minds sure do!

This is sprezzatura.

What an amazing term.

F^ck the oxymoron.

Now that you've got this picture well placed in the front of your mind, apply this concept to your content life.

It's content and content distribution that perfectly lines up, at the right and perfect time, every time.

It's having incredible photos of you from every event you go to (in which you've got your sprezzatura working in your favour).

It's having people remark to you that they love what you do, that they don't know how you do it, that it's constant, prolific, interesting.

This is sprezzatura.

Sprezzatura is a condition in which you work hard, but only those close to you (and maybe not even those people) know just how hard you work. It just comes off as mastery. In amongst this masterful deployment of content, you look only like you're living the good life.

There's a risk, of course: Workaholism, or being given loads more work because it looks effortless for you.

But maybe that's a risk you're willing to take in 2022?

Most of the people I know who manage to pull off this sprezzatura are not doing it on their own.

The CEOs who release books, have kids, volunteer, sit on boards, play sport, go on holidays (etc) always have ghostwriters.

The entrepreneurs who look perfectly branded and turned out always have videographers, photographers, and designers in their pockets doing the work for them (usually because those entrepreneurs are so well connected that the service providers work gratis).

The CMOs who pull it off always have teams who do the work, usually outsourced.

Sprezzatura in content is possible, but it usually means being the project manager and not the technician.

This is why I'm running the 10 days of Christmas offer this year: You might want to get thee some sprezzatura for your new year!
