7 April 2022 | From the friendly caves of Pixie Hollow.
In America, there is white trash.
In Canada, there are hosers.
In Australia, we have bogans.
But did you know, Pixieling, that a bogan is a shell-less egg??
The term is Irish. Here is the definition:
A bogán is an egg without a shell, although the word can also be used of soft, unsteady ground, as well as mushy, overcooked food—and, by extension, a spineless person.
So technically, a bogan isn't just someone who is poor, lives on the other side of the tracks, drinks too much, smokes a lot, speaks poorly, is poorly educated, and (if not on welfare) works in some kind of substandard bluecollar situation.
They're also spineless.
What's that mean? When you examine the etymology of 'spineless', you understand this to mean lacking moral fibre.
The trouble with all of these kinds of labels is that it stops us from looking at what's really important.
It's interesting, don't get me wrong.
But what's important is whether you're serving humans.
Nobody cares (unless it's your entire market, obviously) whether those humans are black, pink, yellow or blue; nobody cares whether they're dwarf lesbians with peg legs who live on ships and piratically torment the southern seas while stealing everyone's gold.
They're people. They're humans.
Your entire world will be better off if you eliminate divisive labels of all kinds from your business. And that includes labels about sex or 'identity'.
Unless it's genuinely meaningful to your business (because of specific clothing items, or services like medicine), you may as well have a checkbox that says:
