How TF does Ghostwriting even work?

Class, for those of you down the back who didn’t hear the question, it was: How the fark does ghostwriting even work?

Great question, thank you for asking.

Copywriting, as you’ll remember from my missive to you last week, is reliant on an excellent brief.

Ghostwriting, in contrast, is reliant on access.

Access to what?
* You
* Your papers, diaries, scribbles, letters
* Your blogs
* Your videos
* Your courses
* … All other relevant content you’ve created.

If you’ve published loads of content of any kind, all of it is grist for the ghostly mill.

The most important thing of all, however, is your voice.

You see, a gifted ghostwriter will “channel” your voice. They will pick up your patterns, lilts, nuances, tics, and habits of speech. They will mimic your style so perfectly that other people will not be able to know the difference.

I know because this is what I’ve done for the last eight years.

For about five of those years, I was ghosting for one of Australia’s best workplace trainers, Gina Brooks. Most of her content was crafted by way of collaboration, but officially “authored” by Gina.

One of those pieces was an opinion piece about Aged Care, and I wrote it so far into our relationship that I barely needed to speak with her. She loved it. Her network loved it. And some of my close friends began sending me links to it with, “Hey Leticia, this is excellent, you’ll enjoy it.”

Yes, so, um, I know. I wrote it.

Lol.

The only way I can explain “getting” the voice is that it’s like “channelling” it.

Of course, this is likely to be much less any kind of psychic ability than it is deep familiarity with the subject.

Hence the need for access.

So if you’re thinking that working with a ghost could be a way to capture your story or write your book, really think about your willingness to be available. To spend time in apparently pointless conversation. To make friends. And also, if you have content available, to share every last skerrick.

Obviously, if you’re interested, let me know.

I’m offering the kind of deal that you’ll seriously never find anywhere, because I’m building a folio of long-form works. You know, memoir, autobiography, full length non fiction books, oral histories, that kind of thing.

The deal is $1800/month for 10 months, PLUS an insane licensing deal.

Insane for me, suuuper beneficial for you.

We’re talking the term of your natural life plus fifty years kind of beneficial for you.

If you aren’t the one to do something like collaborate on a book but you know someone who would be keen, feel free to set up a warm intro.

And questions are always welcome.
