The CAGP National Conference Program Committee invites you to participate in CAGP's 30th National Conference on Strategic Philanthropy.
The annual conference is a showcase for gift planners, fundraisers and professional advisors and other senior leaders to exchange information, knowledge and ideas on all aspects of the gift planning process, from the interpersonal to the highly
technical, as well as broader issues and trends pertinent to our delegates.
In our efforts to strengthen diversity, CAGP encourages and is actively seeking speakers from all diverse backgrounds to present at our upcoming conference. Allyship begins with listening, speaking and amplifying, and CAGP would like to play an active
role in providing an opportunity to share experiences, promote awareness and create a more inclusive sector.

Whether you are new to gift planning or in need of a solid refresher, the CAGP Foundation's Gift Planning Fundamentals is a one-day introductory course in person that will give you the boost you need to thrive in your career.
Topics include:
Current philanthropic trends and tax issues
Some common types of planned gifts in Canada
How to introduce and discuss planned gifts with your donors
Gifts from Estates are an increasingly important source of revenue for charities – and also subject to far more stringent legal and financial oversight than gifts from a living individual. Is your charity receiving gifts from Estates? From
acceptance & acknowledgment to account review, releases and receipting, this course will cover how to manage your program and stay on the right side of the law & tax rules. We’ll also delve into how to handle delicate conversations with executors, lawyers, family, loved ones, and the important role of recognition for these special gifts, as well as explore future trends and emerging issues like the growing source of bequests from donor-advised foundations.
CAGP is always thinking of the future, and how we can best serve our members and strengthen strategic charitable gift planning through education and professional development, resources, leadership and advocacy, and by building the network of charity
fundraisers and professional advisors.
As we continue on this journey, and in the context of rising costs and inflation, we are mindful of the resources required to sustain our work. After much consideration, we have decided that effective September 1, 2023, and for the first time since 2015,
we will be implementing an increase to our membership fees of approximately 10% (click here for a list of specific membership fee increases). This will allow us to continue to provide the sector-leading programs and services you've come to
expect from us now and well into the future.
We don’t take this lightly, and we know you don’t either. That’s why we are providing you with a lengthy notice of this increase. As an added bonus, we are also pleased to offer anyone whose membership is expiring before November 30,
2023, the opportunity to renew before September 1st at the current membership rate.
We thank you for your continued membership and your support of CAGP.
On May 18th, CAGP held its Annual General Meeting. We were pleased to elect two new Directors to the 2023-24 National Board of Directors. Congratulations and welcome to Maya Ahmad and Jen Pederson.

Are you thinking about upcoming changes
to the AMT? We are too…
We know many CAGP members continue to have concerns following the 2023 Federal Budget regarding new calculations on the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), and implications that may have on donations from wealthy Canadians. If you missed the blog post on this
matter by Government Relations Committee member, Bobby Kleinman, you can find it HERE.
In follow-up, we wanted to report that CAGP’s Government Relations Committee is gathering information as to the intended purpose and status of these changes and is preparing a submission to the Department of Finance. The aim is to ensure they are
made aware of the potential impact this is likely to have on charitable giving, and also to express the view that moving wealth for the purposes of community benefit should not be a tax-preference matter.
We’ll ensure CAGP members are kept apprised of next steps, but in the meantime, these changes are intended to take effect in 2024. If you have discussions underway with donors regarding significant gifts, directly or through publicly-listed
securities, making this happen in 2023 might be the best bet.
Congratulations!
