Will Power is testing out something new!

We were surprised to find out that 8% of Canadians have named a charity as a beneficiary of their RRSP. We wanted to lean into this, so we created a dedicated RRSP campaign for our partners.

Partners can now send their donors to a page on the Will Power website to download the most common RRSP beneficiary forms. It’s a quick and easy way for them to immediately leave a legacy gift to their charity. You can check it out by clicking in the button below.

New Trust Reporting Rules – CRA decision provides much hoped-for relief for charities

The Canada Revenue Agency has just announced much-hoped-for relief for registered charities regarding the new Trust Reporting Rules. As of tax years ending on or after December 31, 2023, internal trusts created by charities will not be required to file the T3, Trust Income Tax and Information Return. This decision acknowledges the concerns of registered charities and provides clarity on the application of the new reporting requirements.

Charities play a vital role in our communities, and this development ensures they can focus more on their mission and less on administrative burdens. It is definitely a step forward in supporting the sector.

More information about specific filing requirements can be found at this link

Donald K. Johnson continues his tremendous advocacy work to call on the Federal government for an exemption on capital gains tax when a charitable donation is made from the proceeds of the sale of private company shares and real estate.

Please find attached a copy of the letter we sent to the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on October 10th, and the full page letter posted in 5 publications last month.

If your local MP is a Liberal, it would be very helpful to arrange a meeting or call with them to convey that all Charities in your riding are unanimously objecting to the proposed changes to the AMT (Alternative Minimum Tax) in the 2023 Budget. If you have connections with relevant people in Ottawa, communicating your support would be very beneficial as well.  Also, if your MP is NDP, please ask them to communicate their support to remove the proposed changes to the AMT from the 2023 Budget to their leader, Jagmeet Singh. That way, he can communicate with the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

On the same topic, here is a link to an opinion piece from the Globe & Mail.

Please share this with anyone you feel might be interested.

Many thanks for your support.

- Best regards,
Donald K. Johnson

We are deeply appreciative to the Vancouver Foundation for their generous gift of $10,000 in memory of Calvin Fong, the first Chair of the CAGP Foundation.

Kevin McCort, President and CEO of Vancouver Foundation, told us, “We wanted to honour Calvin as a leader in the gift planning community and express our sadness at the loss of our colleague. We know he had a great impact on so many people who crossed paths with him across the country.

Once again, our heartfelt thanks for this moving tribute and for supporting a cause that meant so much to Calvin.

This is not an ask!

We want to wish our members a successful Giving Tuesday, if you are fundraising this day. We hope what we’ve been able to give you are the tools you need to build a better world through strategic charitable giving through the education offerings the CAGP Foundation is able to fund.

Thank you to our generous donors and supporters!
