SUBMIT YOUR BURSARY APPLICATION BY

MONDAY, JANUARY 22nd

The CAGP Conference Bursary Program is intended to enable both charity gift planners and professional advisors to participate in this outstanding professional development opportunity where financial constraints are a barrier to access.

We also seek to strengthen cultural diversity among our delegates. As such, while anyone may apply for a bursary, we do prioritize applications from those in small organizations or companies with limited professional development budgets, and from members of diverse communities.

Don't delay - the deadline to submit a bursary application is Monday, January 22.

We have two types of bursary available this year:

AMT IMPLEMENTATION DELAYED!

On November 30th, following its Fall Economic Statement, the Federal Government tabled Bill C-59 , the second and final Budget 2023 implementation bill, and the measures to change the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) were not included.  The proposed AMT rules included two provisions that would reduce the tax benefits of lifetime donations from individuals. The proposals were:  a 50% reduction of the donation tax credit and a 30% reduction in capital gains exemption for public security donations. This exclusion from Bill C-59 means implementation of the new AMT regime is delayed until some time in 2024.

What happens next is unclear. The 2023 Fall Economic Statement confirmed the Government’s intention to proceed with the new AMT rules, as modified to take into account consultations and deliberations since their release. CAGP, Imagine Canada, and other charitable sector organizations, made representations to the Government about the negative implications of including donations in the AMT regime (CAGP’s submission can be found here.) CAGP hopes that the Government will consider AMT tax reform without impairing charitable donation tax relief as originally proposed.

As always, we will provide continued updates as they become available.
