Hello again , here we are again, with summer threatening! I hope you are well. Today we'll have a bit more about Resilience, and about the
actions we can take to help stop things getting worse. I know the whole Climate Thing seems impossibly huge, and we wonder what we can do as tiny little individuals; but maybe the point is that we are more than individuals, and for each of us there is something that's ours to do. Mine seems to be to spread knowledge, raise awareness and coach those who feel ready for more.

With another look at Resilience, we continue to revisit the 4Rs of Deep Adaptation which considers, how might we best live with what's coming?
All this is not so much repetition, rather a deepening of understanding. I am reminded of T S Eliot's phrase, about returning to a place where we began, and - this is the point - 'to know the place for the first time'.
So what else is good for resilience? Well, maybe you have a pet, a cat or a dog or even a goldfish. There are huge benefits with this, and this page is one of hundreds that I could cite that goes into great detail as to why. With dogs, I love that way they look at you, and you can pour out your heart safe in the knowledge that they'll never tell and they'll still love you anyway! How much better that can make us feel.
Then there's celebrations, feasts and marking anniversaries. We have just had, in the UK, HM the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations and it's been lovely. It really does seem to
have provided a focus of unity in these fractured times, whatever we might think about the idea of monarchy. We need to belong, and remembering anniversaries and major events helps us to do that, even when the memories might be poignant.
I introduced last time the idea of Holding Actions, which, as Joanna Macy shows
us, are crucial in slowing the damage to Earth and all its inhabitants, bother human and other.
One example of this is to undertake robust research so that we really can say with confidence what is happening to our climate, our whole environment and our relationship with the other than human world. How do we know for example, that we really are in the midst of the Sixth Mass Extinction? And that it is the Industrial Growth Society, and all its
often invisible assumptions, that have got us to this point? Here's an abstract summary from a prestigious body, again, one among many. And here is the site of the Tyndall Centre, specialising in climate
research.
When we know what we are talking about we can, as I am trying to do here, convey the urgency to others.
What's already being done
I've said that dealing with the climate crisis is not just about what we DO but also about how we BE, and with this in mind may I bring to your attention this upcoming
webinar, which looks at exactly this - Climate Change as Spiritual Practice'. It's been rescheduled to June 14th (not now May 31st as stated) and there is a recording available.
And Possible is launching an initiative in July to help us reduce or even stop using cars. I'll share the details when I have them, but meanwhile maybe we can all think twice before we just Nip somewhere in the car.
Well that's it for today, . If there’s something else you’re seriously interested in, let me know by replying to this email and
I’ll do my best to find out about it for you. Why not also keep in touch with me on my main list too: go here to subscribe safely. As ever, you can see previous issues in the archive here, to better appreciate the context. (Tip: All best viewed in landscape if you're on your mobile.)
Meanwhile, please spread the word and share this email if you know someone who you think would be interested in it. Stay well, keep safe, and I'll be in touch again in a couple of weeks, mostly the first and third Mondays of each month.
All best wishes, Barbara
If you don't already know me, you might be wondering who I am and what moves me to create this series. Well, I am an accredited executive and personal Coach,
which basically means I help people to think deeply about their own personal situations and then to act on their thinking.
I have a particular interest in well-being, resilience and effectiveness, and in recent years I've become personally and shockingly aware of the climate emergency and related issues. I'm not a climate or sustainability expert - just a very concerned human.
And so, with many coaching colleagues, including Synergy Global, I want to do what I can to spread information, inspire hope and encourage action. See the buttons above for more.
