Biden Administration Announces Strengthened Approach to Crack Down on Illicit Fentanyl Supply Chains The announcement included activity to lead a coordinated global effort with international partners to disrupt the illicit synthetic drug trade, strengthen coordination and information sharing amoung U.S. intelligence and domestic law enforcement agencies, accelerate work with private sector globally, disrupt the abuse of the U.S. financial system, and
encourage legislation to close legal loopholes for illicit synthetic drugs.
COPS Office Grant Announcement- New Funding
Opportunities Tribal Resources
Grant Program (TRGP) – Technical Assistance TRGP-TA funds are used to support tribal law enforcement agencies through training and technical assistance efforts around community policing topics. The focus of the 2023 TRGP-TA
solicitation is Tribal Community Response Plans (TCRP) for Missing Indigenous Persons, with the goal of improving responses to emergent missing Indigenous persons cases by establishing a collaborative response from Tribal Governments, law enforcement, and other partners through culturally appropriate guidelines. This program will provide funding to an organization that demonstrates well-established experience in developing and delivering direct technical assistance to law enforcement
personnel and criminal justice professionals in this area. Approximately $300,000 is available for this program. Applications are due by May 24, 2023 at 4:59 PM ET. Please click

COPS Blue Alert Program The COPS Office administers the National Blue Alert Network, a voluntary nationwide system to give authorities an early warning of threats against law enforcement and to aid in the apprehension of suspects who have killed or seriously injured an officer or deputy. The 2023 COPS Blue Alert Program seeks applications from organizations to support the COPS Office with
coordinating the Blue Alert system. The primary objectives of the cooperative agreement to be funded under this solicitation are to raise awareness of the Blue Alert system through the production of an educational video and to research, gather, and compile accurate and timely information from credible sources about all reported incidents where on-duty law enforcement throughout the United States, territories, and tribal lands are shot in the line of duty. Approximately $130,000 is

This week, the names of 556 officers killed in the line of duty were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These 556 officers include 224 officers who were killed during 2022. An additional 332 officers died in previous years (before 2022). There are currently 23,785 names engraved on the Memorial.
Bipartisan, Bicameral Bill to Expand Mental Health Support for DHS Law Enforcement Introduced Senators Gary Peters (D-MI), Chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Josh Hawley (R-MO) introduced bipartisan legislation to increase mental health resources for law enforcement personnel at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The legislation would create the DHS Law Enforcement Mental Health and Resiliency Program to oversee and streamline the delivery of enhanced
mental health and wellness services for DHS law enforcement officers and agents. Reps. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Ranking Member of the House
Homeland Security Committee, and Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) have also introduced companion legislation in the House. "The DHS Suicide Prevention and Resiliency for Law Enforcement Act will establish a Law Enforcement Mental Health and Resiliency
Program within DHS. The program will provide additional oversight, guidance, and resources to DHS components that perform law enforcement duties. The bill would also require DHS components to prioritize mental health, well-being, resilience, and suicide prevention programs. This bill would require each DHS component to assign a representative to the program to ensure the sharing of best practices and resources across the department. The bill would also require the review and revision of current
policies to improve mental health and wellness programs and training and reduce the stigma of seeking mental health."
