Hola from Costa Rica !
We are back at Lago Arenal, CR with a view of the Arenal Volcano, a nice place to walk in the community, and cooler temperatures. This Wisconsin girl appreciates cooler temps (but not winter temperatures in the Midwest).
Artful Coffee
The above picture is a handmade coffeemaker, found in a local restaurant. The artwork is made of 3 large, round stones and a metal frame. Traditional Costa Rican coffee is made by putting coffee in the little sock and pouring boiling water through it, which drips into a cup or pitcher. It's very good coffee! If this piece of artwork was for sale, I would
have bought it.
Monteverde Day Trip
Last week we took it easy except for one day when we drove to the Monteverde / Santa Elena area. It was a two-hour drive on bumpy, rutted roads, just big enough for 1.5 cars (haha). The landscape is exquisite and I enjoyed the views. Don, not so much. It was tense, and his view was white-knuckles, straight ahead at all times.
We did have a good time wandering the downtown area, looking at local art, and eating in the Tree House Restaurant. The restaurant has a large ficus tree growing up through the center of it, three stories high.
We also enjoyed a terrific cuppa joe at the coffee shop near the Quaker school. We had coffee and a cinnamon roll that rivals Cinnabon—and I admit, I ate half (...just to keep Don from gaining weight). Just then, school let out and the kids started to wander past, speaking multiple languages. Some played soccer. Some chased their siblings. It brought a
smile to our faces, but I was wishing our grandkids were here with us on this adventure.
This week two of my sisters-in-law, Margaret Fay and Ellen Fadel, are coming to visit. In fact, we will pick them up in Libéria today. We are excited to welcome visitors and have a fun week planned, mostly eating local food, walking and visiting.
