Blockchain technology has potential for robust use-cases in health-care. As more applications leverage decentralized ledgers, further research and development is necessary to address technically challenging aspects such as scalability, privacy and support of complex multi-user smart contracts. Novel consensus algorithms focused on reduced power consumption, public blockchains with private chaincode and private channels, multichain communication, layer 2 applications that allow for on-chain execution of smart contracts, and token economies are all crucial areas that garnered a great deal of interest over the last few years.
