I Doubt That – 8.30 Kempton – 1m 4F Handicap – 18/1 Ladbrokes, Coral, Bet365 (best priced 20/1)  - BOG – 4 places – 1 Point Each Way.
The four-year-old I Doubt That, started life in Ireland and looked a big backward sort. He was always in the rear in his maidens and still postmarked 51, before connections sent him hurdling for a juvenile career, with the size of him this was understandable.
He ran Ok in his hurdles against some hot pots, so mid-division, and making minor headway were very respectable runs, postmarking a high of 90.
He returned to the flat for his last run before being sold to Uk connections, and this was a fascinating run, as they brought him back to a mile and was allowed to drop out of the stalls and was detached at halfway, before staying on under tender handling to finish in the pack.
The horse is out of a Champs Elysees mare and is bred for further, so to run the horse in such a race seemed such a waste, especially since the owners then sold him.
It’s all well and good making it look an eye-catching ride, but the jockey hardly put any effort in, and with a stronger ride could have been much more eye-catching and helped improve the sale value!!
So today, under new ownership, and only a month later, the horse makes his UK debut over a much more suitable 1m 4F trip.
The decent Pat Dobbs takes the ride and from a handy draw in stall 4, could get a fair track position.
The current odds of 18/1 look big and so I’m recommending 1 point each way.
