Issues and Nominations we are still watching:
- Serena Rice is still up for nomination to the State Board of Education. We did a push over the past few weeks for President Scutari to not bring her nomination to a vote of the whole senate. We’ll continue this effort when we learn more about their voting session schedule.
- The NJ Department of Health is reviewing the
Communicable Disease Administrative Code and will be sharing its edits this summer that will allow for a 90 public comment period. We will continue to monitor the timeline and changes. You can learn more about this through this this Spaces link, where NJStandsUp leader Maria Quigley and others participated. https://twitter.com/i/spaces/1OdKrjoVkWOKX
- Recently the CDC dropped the 5 days of isolation for those without the symptoms but who were in contact with someone with Covid 19. The NJ Department of Health has not adopted this new position as of yet.
- We also continue to monitor the Freedom to Read Act which protects Librarians and Media Specialists who allow age-inappropriate materials in the schools libraries. The media is messaging this as banning, and the reality is no
books are being burned or destroyed. The books are still accessible, we just don’t want them in school libraries or classrooms where minor children are participating. Let’s change the narrative!
