In June, Canada commemorates National Indigenous History Month to recognize the history, heritage and diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Keeping this short and sweet, friends. I've been spending the last week MOVING and totally overshot my capabilities for getting this newsletter out on Friday/Saturday. But midweek, I managed to interview Dr. Kim Tallbear, the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate professor and all around badass, about the similarities and differences when it comes to Indigenous affairs in Canada versus the U.S.

I don't know if you followed, but last Monday, June 21, marked Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada and I have to say, my mind was a little blown when I realized how on board the Canadian government is about commemorating this special day and, for that matter, Indigenous Peoples Month which is all of June.

Check out the Canadian government's website for an insane list of interactive resources about First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples - and as you browse, consider the immense void of anything like that here in the United States. Then ask yourself why?

And about my move... It's a big one! I'm relocating all the way to Alaska for a year

and will be driving through Canada starting next week. It's why the country's on my mind. Their Covid-19 restrictions are still quite rigid compared to the U.S. which has made planning my journey yet another underestimation on my part.

I'm sure it'll be a bit of a bumpy ride here with this newsletter, but I'm going to try to keep pace. So come along. Can't wait to share more.
