My dear friend, Amos Oz The man behind the books Writer and humanist Legacy on fanaticism
Katya Chelli trained to be a classical ballerina, but back problems put an end to her dreams. After studying foreign languages, she turned to film editing. In Paris since 1985, she has edited several French feature films and documentaries.
Katya writes: In 2017, while in Israel preparing my first documentary, HEALING HEARTS, I broached the subject with my very dear friend, Amos Oz, of my making a film about him – not a biography, but a film about his literature. I did this knowing that he no longer wished to participate in any films about himself. He answered: “for you, Katya, I say ‘yes’!” Amos died in a Tel Aviv hospital on December 28th, 2018, when I was in
Jerusalem completing the filming of HEALING HEARTS.
"Katya Chelli collaborated on several of my films. Her long and close friendship with Amos Oz puts her in a privileged position to make a film which will enrich our understanding of this great author and his literature." - Costa-Gavras
Katya's presentation will include contributions from Amos's daughter, Fania Oz-Salzberger, a professor of history and writer and from Amos's longtime French editor at Gallimard, Jean Mattern.
