Ruth Lynn Deech, an academic, lawyer and bioethicist, sits in the House of Lords as a Crossbench Peer. With a stellar academic career, she chairs the House of Lords Appointments’ Commission. The daughter of a refugee from the Nazis, among other interests, she is Patron of UK Lawyers for Israel.
Daniel William Finkelstein, Associate Editor and columnist of The Times, is a Conservative Peer in the House of Lords. Now Baron Finkelstein of Pinner, he was advisor to PM John Major and to Conservative Leader William Hague. He is the son of refugees from the Nazis and Soviet Russia as told in
his memoir Hitler, Stalin, Mum and Dad, A Family Memoir of Miraculous Survival.
