The Midwest is well placed to become one of the main centers of clean hydrogen production and demand in America. Thanks to its great wind and solar resources, not to mention existing nuclear power plants, clean H2 producers in the region are able to source large amounts of low-cost, zero carbon energy. This is essential, given that electricity accounts for about 70% of electrolytic H2 production costs. Agriculture, one of the Midwest’s strongest sectors, can also provide sustainable feedstocks for pyrolysis and other clean H2 production pathways.

Crucially, the Midwest is home to many potential off-takers of clean hydrogen in industries such as refining, iron and steelmaking, fertilizers, chemicals and heavy duty trucking. These industries are considered difficult to decarbonize and many are receiving federal funding to reduce their carbon emissions.

However, scaling up production and delivery to make clean hydrogen competitive is far from an easy task. Recognizing the challenges involved in harnessing this huge opportunity, the US DOE has authorized up to $1billion to the Midwest H2 Hub (MachH2), an organization that brings together 70 pioneering companies and institutions in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan that are shaping the future of clean hydrogen in the Midwest and beyond.

Join this RENMAD by ATA Insights webinar and get clear, actionable insights into the potential of the US Midwest as a clean hydrogen hub.

This webinar is your gateway to understanding the landscape of clean hydrogen in the Midwest and Great Lakes area and:

  • Hear from large scale buyers of hydrogen on the prices and conditions they look for when signing long-term offtake agreements
  • Find out more about the sources of clean electricity in the region and how they impact production costs
  • Learn more about ongoing clean hydrogen projects and uncover strategies for your own projects
  • Get access to an in-depth analysis of 45V and 45Q tax credits and on other regulatory initiatives that impact H2 developments in the region
