Updated Voter Stories Launched! Hartford Get Out the Vote Data tools With the upcoming municipal election in Hartford in mind, CTData partnered with the Hartford Votes Coalition and the BSL Education on an updated voter data project. Hartford Votes convened Hartford organizations that are engaged in get-out-the-vote activities as part of the Hartford Foundation for Public
Giving’s Get out the Vote grant program. Through interactive sessions, this group identified several questions that would be helpful in their efforts. Explore the project here.
New Data: Households with Children by Income Bracket We've added a small addition to our data on
Children & Families: Households with Children by Income Bracket. We pulled this microdata for a project and found it helpful, so wanted to make it available to the public! The data is from the 2021 ACS 1-year estimates for the state of Connecticut. Access the data here.
Celebrating Native American Heritage Month To celebrate Native American Heritage month, we explored the Decennial Census
data files to find some data on Native Americans living in Connecticut. In this post we share what we found about the tribes with the highest populations in Connecticut, demographics of the Native American population in Connecticut, where Native populations live across the state, and information about where people are employed. and ethnicity categories. But these categories never accurately represented people from different racial groups, and this is becoming more true as the US becomes more diverse. During this recording, Kanin Reese from the Center for Enterprise Dissemination at the Census Bureau, demonstrates how we can utilize the Census Bureau’s Microdata Tool to find data about people living in our state from specific countries of origin, nationalities, languages, ethnicities, and more. Disrupting Gender Inequity Michelle to Present Findings from New Report Eleven percent of women live in poverty in Connecticut. Eviction levels, which disproportionately affect women, are higher than they were pre-pandemic. Local advocates and experts in early childcare education say funding and staffing shortfalls only deepened during the pandemic. At this live event, Disrupted host Khalilah Brown-Dean talks to panelists about the economic inequities faced by women, especially women of color, since the start of the pandemic. We’ll focus on childcare, housing, and economic mobility as we look at the data and what we can do to make a change. The
panel coincides with the release of our Elusive Equity report, funded by Aurora Women and Girls Foundation and The Community Fund for Women and Girls of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
