Good
Morning ,
“Life is both pleasure and pain, is it not? But why should we cling to pleasure and avoid pain? Why not merely live with both? If you cling to pleasure, what happens? You get attached, do you not?” — Jidda Krishnamurti
We often encounter the twin aspects of pleasure and pain in our life's journey. It's a natural balance, much like day and night. Epicurus, the Greek philosopher, taught that humanity's goal should be to maximize pleasure and minimize pain. But life, in its infinite
complexity, seldom offers such clear choices.
Take the experience of getting a tattoo, familiar to many of us. There's a particular understanding that getting inked comes with pain – the sensation of a vibrating needle piercing your skin. Yet, this pain is almost a cherished part of the process. You endure it, knowing that the result – a beautifully healed tattoo – makes
it worthwhile. Pain and pleasure are not just intertwined; one paves the way for the other.
Consider the corporate employee dreaming of entrepreneurial freedom – the liberty to choose their hours, pick their projects, and steer their ship. Yet, this freedom also brings uncertainty, a departure from the comfort of a regular paycheck and structured days. On the
other hand, the regularity of a 9-5 job offers stability and predictability but may limit personal freedom.
Life is not about choosing pleasure over
pain or vice versa. It's about understanding that both are essential parts of our experiences. They guide our choices, shape our perspectives, and enrich our understanding of what we truly value. As Mark Manson insightfully points out in "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck," the question is, "What are you willing to suffer for?” or better yet, "What challenges are you willing to embrace?”
I invite you to view pain and pleasure not as opposites but as complementary forces. They are not to be judged but experienced and understood as integral to your growth and self-realization. Through this lens, you'll find the most authentic version of yourself.
, your journey towards amplified authenticity starts here. Let’s embrace the full spectrum of life together.
All the best being YOU!
